Confusion!

Like any other day, I boarded the public bus to office from its station. While I was waiting for the bus to move,  a boy and a girl  in their early adolescence came and seated in the opposite seats, facing towards me.
The College ID card hung around the girl's neck confirmed that they were from one of the well-known management colleges of the city.
Their age group and the chit-chats were winning my attraction at that time.
I could hear them clearly. The girl was Riya (I could just read the first name in the ID card only) while the boy was Onir as per their talk.
The discussion was growing interesting and therefore, I didn't noticed when the bus started its journey. They were immensely engrossed in their talks that they didn't even notice that I was probably one of the audience of their discussion.

Well, the interesting discussion was that Riya was confused about the religion of the boy
and she was trying to find it out somehow by talking to Onir.
Their conversation was as below:
Riya: "Onir, how was your holiday?
Onir replied , "Just as usual..I slept and slept, its good to go home once in a while..Mom cooks nice food and this time it was quite special due to the festive season"
Riya: (with a trace of naughty smile on her face) "Well as it was Eid..did you perform the rituals?"
Onir: "Yeah just simple as other days!"
Riya: "When are u planning for visiting home next?"
Onir: "I am planning for the upcoming Holi vacation..And you know, Iqbal my roommate will accompany me to my hometown this time. He is planning to visit for a long time".
Riya: "Onir..let me ask u a thing. Hope u ll not mind".
Onir:"Oh sure, why not?"
Riya"Pakka..u ll not mind?"
Onir" Yes dear..I ll never ever mind..infact, I dont have a mind" said with a bubbling smile.
Riya " Are you a Hindu or Muslim?" Asked with a quizzical look on her face.
Onir: "What do you think and importantly why?"
Riya : Your name is confusing..i discussed with mom and she said you r a Hindu..
Onir:  "Oh, I am a lucky boy it seems, you discuss about me with your mother?"
Riya :"Why not..you are one of my close friends in the college"
Onir: Well I am a Muslim but" said naughtily.
Riya: (after a long silence) : "Oh..I was sure that you are a Hindu too, just now you said you will be going to home during Holi" said with a gloomy look.
Onir:" ha ha, I told you about my Eid celebrations too"..After a short pause he continued "well, if you want I am a Hindu", the sun rays coming through the glass window makes his face more bright.
Riya:" hey! please, tell me the truth, even the guys in the college said you are Muslim, but when my mom assured me, i thought you may be a Hindu"
Onir: "Yes,I am"
Riya: "What are you?"
Onir: "Well , I am a Hindu but.."
Riya: "but?"
Onir: "i am a Muslim too"
Riya: "hey..I will not talk to you if you will not reveal"
I had to leave by then when they were busy debating and Onir was having fun teasing Riya.
The last words from Onir which came to my ears were
"how does it matter, Will Sun not come up tomorrow if I am a Muslim, or Moon will not show up ever..or this bus will stop, if I am a Hindu?"

I too asked myself: How does it matter? Does it? probably it does or may be not!.
Like everyday, the bus left its bay after dropping numerous passengers like me irrespective of their religion.
