Office will never be fun again!

Image
This picture was clicked on 21st Feb 2020 just before we stopped going to office after the pandemic started gobbling our lives. I captioned this picture as Reason#101  to be happy@Office. After clicking this picture, I told you I will never sit beside you in the next photograph as it makes me look darker than what I am. It seems you took it seriously! Corona was just in the news then and we were still trying out take-aways from different new restaurants during office lunch.  Do you remember, that afternoon we even planned for a side-business of opening a food stall during office lunch hours? We never met before 2017. From 2017 since the last day when we went to office, there were seldom any day when we have not gone for lunch/evening tea together. We sat in the same cubicle for all these years. Spending 8 hours a day with a person makes him/her a habit, isn't it? When people were writing messages about you, I too started writing..but I couldnot describe our association i...

Memories and Books

Memories are like your favorite book, you pick it up to get just another look. With a smile you read it again but you know the story, you have been through its all ups, downs and glory. Few chapters you want to revisit  more often, while many others you have deliberately forgotten. You skip pages intentionally as your heart fires as ember, true that some memories are not worth enough to remember. A page got folded un-noticed,  the last time you read it through, And you unfurl it back to its own shape to make it look all new. And while glancing through those treasured lines of that favorite verse once more, engrossed, you hold the book close to your heart while a dried rose drops on the floor. For few seconds, the sudden fragrance of the beautiful moments of the past comes alive, oh dear! the pressed flower has now lost its radiance as it couldn't survive. It reminds you were compelled to keep it away due to its thorns, but, you loved it so much that even today your heart mourn...

And they got accustomed too!!

The officials visited each house of the town, No one was spared, white, black or brown. They hung a device over the throat which could count phrases per day, This is how they put a check on the number of words you could say.  Few agreed happily, some protested, but everyone had to accept, Noise pollution reached its highest level and this is how check was kept.  One-two-three-four device counted in a line,  The machine beeped when it crossed ninety-nine. Any shout costed five words in a shot, First many days were extremely tough! The babies could not cry their heart out, The mothers couldn't shout, The lovers fall short for words to propose, The old spoke the word as a dose.  The dusky girl who loved chatting all day, Cried and tried but could not find a way.  Then one day when she was almost ran out of her limit, Her granny came in her dream and gave her a surprise visit. She conveyed her pain to Granny but her words were short by ten...

Thammi's Kantha...

Image
Those were blithesome warm afternoons in Dehradun. While baba was busy in office and mom was away to pick didi from her school, thammi and me had our share of good time. The large courtyard attached to our British Era Govt accomodation alloted to my father then, was a perfect place for our hangout in the winter chilled afternoons of Dehradun.  The sun kissed lap of my Granny (whom we called thakurma and sometimes thammi too), was the perfect place for this one hour after school break. The milky white saree she wore gave me the feeling of a pillow. Thammi used to sit with her threadbox and would complete the kantha work with coloured threads and needles. Red, blue, green, yellow, pink, those threads were the only colours in her otherwise white life. I used to either pick up a textbook from my syllabus and read it out for my thammi else she would tell me the stories of her childhood in Bangladesh. On one such occasion I learned about Kantha, the heritage of Bengal, h...

Fellow Dreamer!

Image
One night my son woke me up in the mid of his sleep and shouted saying Ma, can you see my dream? Face was glowing and a little tooth peep, when he held my hands and smiled in sleep. I wondered and asked..dream? how can I see what you are dreaming he held my hands and said, you have to see what I am seeing. That day he made me his fellow dreamer And we promised to dream together. No it was not a castle in the air, But we had a sweet little home, very rare. The beautiful roof of our hut was triangle, Outside, it was watched by a sea gull. "Sea-gulls in the mountains!", I wondered, that's weird, "That how dreams are!", nodded the old wise man waving his beard. violet, red, orange, yellow, green  and blue forming a rainbow, That's exactly how our garden looked from the kitchen window. I picked red, deep scarlet red and painted the sky for him. He picked purple for the trees and the sea was bleeding green. He created me a tiara in variou...
